He’s all grown up!

Baby EJ’s always had quite a headful of hair ever since he was born. When he was younger, and had shorter hair, we used to style it a little. We didn’t have to use hair gel or anything. We would only have to towel dry his hair after his baths a certain way, and his hair will dry in that style. Mostly, we’d style it like Eric’s. I remembered one time we were out (specifically at Pink’s hotdog in LA) this person sitting at the table next to us said he saw how both EJ and Eric had the same hair, that they must be father and son.
This was when he was about 3 months old.
Then of course with all hair, it grows. This mommy at my Mommy group loves how long his hair was and wished her own daughter had hair like that so she could put pretty bows and ribbons in her hair. Well, I’ve never put bows and ribbons in his hair, but I won’t say that I haven’t put clips in his hair. 🙂
I wonder if this is gonna come back and bite me when he’s older. :p
We started having people ask if he was a girl or a boy. Someone said he looks like a girl, but was wearing boy clothes, so she wasn’t sure if he was a girl or boy. Sigh. Time for haircut.
But if you knew me, it was a much longer time before we actually gave him his haircut! His hair was actually past his eyes already. Finally, we had a free Saturday morning, and the deed was done! We cut his hair!
I quickly watched a Howcast video on how to cut a boy’s hair (which wasn’t very helpful cos this boy had really long hair), said a little prayer and proceeded to cut his hair.
We put on Finding Nemo for him so that he’d be distracted.
Say goodbye to the beautiful baby locks!
He was fixated on the movie. And from the looks of it, so was Eric 🙂 We had Eric sit behind him and hold him. But he got fussy really fast. He didn’t like that snip-snip sound. He tried grabbing my scissors a few times. And finally tried to break out of Eric’s hold.
Well, by that time his hair was mostly cut so I gave up. When I looked at his hair, I almost burst out crying! What have I done to my baby! I gave him a bowl cut!! But he clearly wasn’t in the mood to sit still anymore, so we stopped and gave him a bath.
As I was drying his hair, I reevaluated his hair, and realized I could’ve taken some more off the top so it’d look less like a bowl cut. So, this time, we laid him down to cut. It was actually easier!
And this was the final product. He does look a lot more like a boy now. He looks so grown up. I don’t know about other people, but I kept a small lock of his hair for remembrance sake. That’s not too weird, right?
Eric said next time, he’ll cut. Guess we don’t have a satisfied parent. 🙂

This is my first year as a mother celebrating Mother’s Day. I woke up to a nice sausage and omelette breakfast, credited to Eric. Nice omelette too, and it was the first time his omelette had turned out so well. The branch presidency decided to cancel their meetings today and so for the first time, Eric was able to help me get the baby ready for church while I got myself ready. I even sat down and ate a proper breakfast! Amazing! Instead of rushing around and just stuffing a bag of crackers in my bag to eat later at church.
We had a potluck after church and this time it was the brothers who made the food! I was very impressed with the level of hard work they put in which resulted in filling up every inch of two long tables with dishes and dishes of food! And we only have 15 men, so very impressive. Considering that some of these men haven’t cooked in a while (one, I heard, hadn’t cooked since before he was married (:) the food was delicious! Some men stayed up till 1am, 2am to finish cooking. Eric got up at around 6am to cook (so even though he didn’t have meetings this morning, he still couldn’t sleep in). I’m sure many sisters thoroughly enjoyed this once-a-year pampering. Even though now my kitchen’s a mess, at least I’m not the one cleaning up 🙂
I had a little contribution to the potluck today. I’d found a recipe for cheesecake stuffed strawberries. Last night my friend made a cake and had some leftover filling. I took the filling and cored the strawberries and stuffed them. The filling is mascarpone cheese with hazelnut. It was yum!
I still need more practice drizzling chocolate on. It tastes better than it looks!!

I got a Mochi recipe from Eric’s aunt. She’s a dessert guru. I love her desserts! Her desserts are always fun. Over Christmas I made cake pops, also inspired by her. I only attempt the easy stuff 🙂
Cake pops are basically cake on a stick. Like a lollipop, but cake!
Here’s my Mochi. The filling is mung bean.
3 CommentsWe were repacking our 72-hour emergency bags and found some slightly expired can soups. So, I decided to use them in a baked pasta dish for dinner tonight. Nothing wrong with slightly expired soups that cans aren’t bulging, right? :S Anyhow, it turned out pretty good!
Ingredients:
Shell and penne pasta
Spinach
Sautéed sausage meat
2 cans of clam and corn chowder
1/2 can of nacho cheese
Some milk and some water
Bake at 375 F for 30 mins.
We had some yummy, but probably very unhealthy baked pasta. 🙂
Leave a CommentOn Friday I celebrated my 28th birthday. Hopefully I’m one year wiser. I definitely feel one year older! I feel like I’m always forgetting things here and there these days. People say this memory fuzziness comes with motherhood. I bet it does 🙂
At every birthday, I always ask myself what I have to show for this past year. I’m proud to say I have my little EJ to show for this year! We’re plus one baby, minus one income. But babies are better 🙂
We went to our all-time favorite Japanese restaurant, Tomi Sushi, for my birthday dinner.
When I asked Eric if we were gonna have cake, he said he didn’t know. Well, that means he was planning something and not telling me. How can we have a birthday without any cake! I love cake! That’s why I’m taking so long to lose all this baby weight.
We headed over to Nat and Rie Woo’s place. Rie made a BTS cake. Gotta love chocolate.
My sister mentioned in her letter sometimes she would feel homesick on her mission. I told her when we’re away from family, our friends become our family. I’m so glad I have such awesome friends.
2 CommentsWe have a very curious little boy. He loves looking at stuff! But he’s too small for the seat in the cart. He doesn’t want to be in his car seat cos he wants to sit up. I’m not gonna carry him cos he’s too heavy. So, we’ve resort to putting him in the basket. He fits perfectly! And he can hold himself up! Everyone wins. 🙂
He won’t smile for the camera!!
Staring intently at the TVs. He loves watching TV!!! But we try not to let him.

With some help of course. He’s so proud of himself, though!
Leave a CommentEvery Monday we go to the Mommy and Me group at our local hospital. They always have a guest speaker that talks about a particular topic relating to babies from 0-6 months. EJ’s a bit older than 6 months, but as long as he’s not crawling, we can continue to go!
This week’s topic was about motor development. Well, EJ’s one of those babies that does things backwards. He’s got pretty strong core strength and balance. He sits up very well now. However, he’s still not turning over! Usually babies flip before they sit right? I think so, but not this one. He’s stuck on his back or tummy if we just put him there. Well, I wouldn’t say he’s completely stuck. He’s turned over a few times before, but I don’t think he realizes he knows how to do it! Many times he just starts crying when he wants to get out from his tummy or back.
Very happy with himself that he stole Lealah’s book

We went to Eric’s manager’s place on Saturday to check out their Kinect. Eric really liked it. Sean (his manager) has been trying to convince me to let Eric get one. I honestly don’t think Eric will do it even if I was ok with it. It’s too big a purchase!
They had a big dog. I think it’s a Doberman. They said he was about 110 pounds. Yikes!! He was a really friendly dog, though. He doesn’t really bark. He likes to get close to you and sniff and lick you. He liked licking EJ’s feet. Kinda gross :/ So when we got home, we wanted to change EJ’s clothes because of the dog hair. He was so tired, he passed out even before we could get clothes on him. He had too much fun watching his dad dance in front of the tv and watching the big doggy.
